Black Panther Party

My second year of grad school went off with a bang. My cohort was chosen to do a tribute to Eddie Conway, a member of the black panther party. We were set to show at the Peale Museum in Baltimore MD, I felt overwhelm with such a task, the Peale is one of the oldest museums in Baltimore! What exactly would I paint? I got to work, doing a deep dive on Eddie Conway’s life and legacy, as an abstract artist I use the tools I’ve gained over the years to make sure my work is intelligible and can offer context aside from color exploration. A smoking rifle, Red Black and green paint, Ink transfers, wall ticks for the years he was a political prisoner. This was the beginning of a freeing realization that my work was too rigid, a type of freedom bloomed in me, and I cannot wait to show you what I’ve been up to.
